About Laura

My background

I’m a proud parent of four children in Georgetown ISD and a Class of 2008 Georgetown ISD alum. Like so many families in our community, our schools are at the center of our daily lives. I’m running for the school board because I care deeply about student success, staff support, and ensuring our schools remain strong, safe, and focused on learning—now and for future generations.

I’m also a registered nurse with extensive experience in leadership, ethics, and systems improvement. My professional background has shaped how I approach problem-solving: listening first, using evidence to guide decisions, and always putting people at the center. I was honored to receive the Texas Organization of School Nurses President’s Award, recognizing my leadership and service to school health and school nurse well-being.

Community leadership and service include:

  • Georgetown ISD Citizens Advisory Committee

  • 2024 GISD Bond Committee

  • Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC)

  • Ongoing community volunteer service supporting students, families, and educators

I believe strong schools are built through collaboration, transparency, and community trust. As a parent, professional, and lifelong member of this community, I’m committed to serving with integrity and ensuring Georgetown ISD continues to thrive.

Why I am running

I’m running for the Georgetown ISD school board to give back to the community that raised me. As a child in Georgetown ISD, my family experienced homelessness and poverty—challenges that were often invisible, but deeply real. What I could always count on was my school and my teachers, who showed up for me every day with care, stability, and belief, even without knowing what I was carrying. Their support changed the trajectory of my life. After achieving academic and professional success, I feel a responsibility to serve the community that served me. I believe in the power of schools to change lives, and I’m committed to ensuring every student—no matter their circumstances—has access to opportunity, dignity, and hope.
